- Has your toddler grown out of their pushchair?
- Need a nice small compact pram for your next hols?
Oh boy, you’ve found this UK pram and pushchair buying guide at the right time!
If you’re about to have a baby, or they’ve already decided to make an appearance, then buying the right pram or pushchair for your bundle of joy is an exciting moment.
That excitement can soon wear off once you’ve seen just how many pushchairs there are out there!
Imagine yourself going for long walks and trips down into town whilst your baby reclines in comfort; enjoying all the new sights and sounds the world has to offer.
But picking the right model pram or pushchair can also be confusing. There are a lot of products to choose from and you don’t want to waste your money here.
And if you’ve already got a newborn or a toddler to take care of, it’s very easy to get frustrated with baby product shopping.
Let’s be honest here…
The pram or pushchair is for your little one, we all know that. But they also need to be super practical for you too.
Wanna get a coffee on a Friday afternoon? Find a pram with a cool accessory to put your coffee on.
We’ve got you.
Yeah your baby needs to be comfortable, but the pushchair they’re in needs to be practical for you as well. But when you’ve got a baby to lug along, and no time for shopping, you end up settling on the first model you see.
Let this buying guide save you some time.
If you’re sick of shopping around for a pram or pushchair that’s easy to use, totally portable, and comfy enough to keep a baby happy, we’ve found a good mix of both prams and pushchairs.
These prams below are perfect for babies from 0 to 3 months all the way to 2+ years old.
What to look for when shopping for a pram or pushchair
If you’re about to be a parent, you’ve got a little bit of time before you need a pram to keep your baby safe and warm – and let’s face it, make sure you can go hands free!
And we know you won’t get an opportunity like this again for a long time yet, so use these moments to work out what you really want in a pushchair or pram.
Here’s what we recommend looking out for with your pushchair
Easy to fold and unfold
You don’t want to spend hours setting up a pushchair or trying to get the pram out the door!
It needs to be easy to fold up when you’re packing it in the car or storing it in the hallway. And when your baby is disgruntled after being woken from their car seat, it needs to be similarly easy to unfold and strap your bundle of joy back in.
You need to be able to set it up and take it down in just a few seconds. Especially after a bit of practice.
Some of our favourite ease of use pushchairs/prams we’ve come across also fall into the ‘travel system’ category.
What’s a travel system pram or pushchair?
If you buy a travel system model, you’ll be able to replace the original seat with your baby’s car seat. This makes it a lot easier to get your baby in and out of the car.
You don’t have to wake them and remove them and get them settled again. You’ve just got to lift the whole unit out and clip it in.
Easy and simple!
Comfy for your baby
For newborns up to 6 months, it’s best to get a pram.
Babies are able to lie down and sleep but also be facing you at all times. But for babies older than this age, a pushchair will do just fine. In either case, the seat needs to be soft to the touch to allow for real comfort.
A quick note: if the pram that you buy doesn’t allow your baby to lie flat, it’s unsuitable for any age younger than 6 months.
Newborns need to be in this position in order to open their airways and breathe properly. It’s also the best position for facilitating healthy spine, hip, and muscle development.
Overall weight
The weight is such a crucial factor when you’re pushchair and pram shopping.
If your pushchair is heavy, how on earth are you going to manoeuvre it? Or get it up and down stairs when there’s no ramp available?
A heavy pushchair or pram is a bulky one. It’s gonna slow you down and prevent you from taking your baby down uneasy terrains.
Heading to the park on a field, you’ll be knackered pushing your way there.
Unexpected cobbles on the highstreet – don’t risk your baby chundering their milk.
How we decide if we like a pram or pushchair
We’ve got a hardy criteria to follow when we decide what a good pram or pushchair looks like.
Here are our top 4 factors that mean we’ve found a winner:
Easy to use
The number one reason! All the models we’ve considered have this main factor in common, to ensure you can open them up and fold them back down in quick time.
Babies don’t wait for us to be ready. Inconsiderate or what. The pushchair or pram we put them in has to have an easy mechanism you don’t need to fiddle with.
Manoeuvrability
Similar to the above factor, every model listed below has also been rated on manoeuvrability.
If the pram or pushchair has a good turning circle, is easy to handle, and has a simple brake system, we consider it a top contender.
Safety rating
In the UK, anything made to carry or transport a baby needs to pass a standardised safety inspection. But even so, some models are made far more safe than others.
We look for good brakes, good locks, and a sturdy frame to determine the safety of a pram or pushchair. And if a pushchair doesn’t have a good harness, we don’t pay any attention to it.
Value for money
Finally, we don’t want any other parents wasting money on a bad model. As such, we take all the other factors into account together and see if that makes a price point acceptable. If you’re going to buy what is essentially a mini vehicle, you’ll want to get your money’s worth.
Aside from these 4 crucial elements, we’ve also placed items on this list according to their colour, shape and design, as well as anything else we find intriguing and particularly useful about the product.
We simply aren’t going to buy a pram or pushchair we don’t like the look of!
Best place to buy a pram in the UK? I reckon you’ve guessed it…
Amazon. It’s currently one of the best places to buy pushchairs in the UK, and all the products below can easily be found through their website.
So without further ado, here are our top 10 prams and pushchairs currently available to buy in the UK:
SONARIN Lightweight Stroller
The most wished for pushchair currently on Amazon, this is one of the best lightweight pushchairs in the UK. And during our inspection of top rated prams and pushchairs, it was easy to see why!
The pushchair is also incredibly safe to use, thanks to its incorporation of a 5 point seat harness. You also have use of a one button brake system – one press of your foot and you won’t have to worry about the chair rolling away with your baby in it. Both the leg rest and the seat itself can be adjusted according to three levels, meaning younger babies can lie right down and older babies can be propped up with no trouble.
As for its ease of use, it’s fitted with a one handed folding system. All you need is a spare hand to push the button and the buggy will fold into itself all ready for carrying. And the same goes for the steering too. A double suspension means you can easily control the whole unit with just one hand over many kinds of terrain, which is great if you’ve got an older child to keep track of as well.
Another thing we really like is just how easy the buggy was to assemble. When shipped only the wheels are packaged separately, meaning they’re the only thing that need attaching before you’re ready to go.
We also like just how many accessories come with the pushchair. The seat has an attachable cotton pad for better comfort, an extra storage bag, and even a mosquito net for summer days when all the bugs are out.
The pushchair has a well streamlined design, but it’s got just the right pop of colour too if you buy the Dark Grey variety. You can also get the model in greens, pinks, and red if you fancy standing out a little more on the street.
For only £119.99, we think this is well worth the investment!
Lejoux Baby Pushchair Stroller
Another brand that prizes safety above all, your baby once again benefits from being strapped in by a 5 point harness. You benefit from the simple button folding system – it only takes a couple of seconds for the pushchair to collapse and be easily portable.
The dual suspension of the stroller makes this a good ‘off roading’ pushchair. If you live near rough roads, dirt tracks, and have to deal with potholes, this chair easily passes our overall manoeuvrability test. Baby stays comfortable in the seat whilst you navigate the terrain and the wheels will hold up well under the pressure.
You’ll be able to easily adjust the way the stroller reclines with another 3 point system. The leg rest also benefits from this system so your baby will be tucked in nice and comfy no matter how fast they’re growing.
The stroller also comes with a travel bag for easy storage, so you won’t have to fork out any extra to be able to pack this into cars, trains, or on planes. Speaking of holidays, this particular model comes with high grade weather protection. Your baby will stay cool and shaded under the hood whilst you enjoy the sunny weather.
We really love the colours available for the pushchair. Available in muted shades of brown, blue, pink, and black, you can still get fun with the buggy without going over the top.
Although it’s a little pricier than the Sonarin pushchair above at £124.98, that extra £5 feels like it goes straight to the sturdiness of the model overall. It’s a well built stroller we’d be happy to use.
Chicco Echo Stroller Stone
Another one of the most wished for pushchairs and prams in the UK, the Chicco Echo Stroller is a very well received product.
It comes with a 5 point harness to keep your baby well held in during use, and we really enjoy the addition of a 4th adjustment setting when it comes to moving the seat back and forth. This makes it a much better choice for toddlers from the age of 3.
The hood on the stroller is quite deep, meaning there’s good sun protection available. You probably won’t need to get the rain cover out when it’s only lightly drizzling for the same reason.
One of the best features of this model is just how easy it is to steer. Even when you’ve got a 15kg baby strapped in and a basket filled with shopping underneath, it’s still rather easy to keep control of!
In terms of the look, we adore the sleek design of the model. Molding black and light grey tones together is very modern and gives this pushchair a contemporary edge we love to see.
This is a very good for budget pushchair; it currently comes in at £89.95. We’ve noticed there’s a regular sale on this buggy, which usually retails at over £100, so keep an eye on the way the price moves before you buy.
Red Kite Baby Push Me 2U
A top choice for parents in the UK, the Red Kite brand regularly turns out quality baby products. And this stroller is no different.
Considering just how much use you can get out of it, we expected it to be bigger than it actually is! It’s easy to fold down into a flat, packable unit and is great for taking on long travels. But even though it’s a lightweight model that’s easy to steer, the manufacturer didn’t compromise on the safety rating. It’s still fitted with a 5 point harness that’ll keep all babies safe and sound.
It’s a great pick for parents looking for a new pushchair for an older baby; this model is great for children aged 2 and up, and is one of the sturdiest for heavier children over the age of 3. There’s plenty of seat room available so you won’t have to worry about little legs dangling over the edge!
Currently only available in a Plum variety, we love just how fun and unusual the colour is. It makes a change from the black, grey, and brown pushchairs and prams
One of the best budget friendly models on this list, it’s currently available for only £46. Once again it’s put on sale regularly and usually goes for over £50, so you may want to get in whilst the cost is slashed.
Cosatto Woosh 3 Pushchair
Currently sitting in third place on the most wished for list on Amazon, the Cosatto Woosh 3 is one of the best compact pushchairs in the UK that we’ve seen thus far. Incredibly easy to fold and take around in one hand, there’s even a fitted telescopic handle you can use to pull it along like a suitcase.
Once again it’s fitted with a 5 point harness, so your baby will sit snugly and safely no matter their age or size. A double suspension means the buggy is easy to control and take over rougher terrain, so those cobblestones right outside your house won’t be a problem!
You’ll even benefit from adjustable handles, meaning you can raise the height of the pushchair to where you need it to be. Similarly, the inclusion of a double-tiered hood allows for a supreme level of weather protection. Keep the sun out their face and the heat off of their skin by just pulling it down, even if you forget the sunscreen at home!
Out of all the pushchairs and prams on this list, we love the available designs for this model the most. Each variety comes with a particular animal or natural print that’s cutesy and just adorable to look at. You could even match their favourite cuddly toy up with the print on the buggy hood!
However, this pushchair is a lot more expensive than any others we’ve seen so far. You can get it for £202.45. But whilst that may be a bit out of budget for you right now, this pushchair will last you a long time. It’s great for babies up to 25kg, so you’ll be able to fit newborns, infants, and toddlers into the seat for years to come.
Hauck Pushchair Shopper Trio Set
A travel system set, this is one of the best travel pushchairs in the UK we’ve been able to find. Not only is it rather affordable for the three tiered set you get, but it’s incredibly adjustable, even for what it’s designed to be. We find it’s one of the easiest clip sets on the market, and perfect for taking out shopping, as the name suggests.
The set itself is incredibly comfortable for babies of all ages. From newborns to those reaching the age of 3, both infants and toddlers will still be able to recline and snooze in this pram/pushchair combo. You’ll also be able to pack the model with all kinds of items without needing to worry about needing a spare hand either. It’s comfy to use all round!
The safety element of this set is also really rather intriguing. Not only do you benefit from the use of a 5 point harness when set up as a pushchair, but the pram setting comes with a further inbuilt 3 point harness. That means the car seat itself has a bonus 3 straps, which is a great safety addition for a standard pram.
The colour and design of the trio is very pleasant to look at. Coming in either light blue or light grey, it blends well with the sleek black design of the model’s base. It’s a stylish combo!
Available for £196.99, this is a very good price for a travel system pushchair and pram. You’ll be able to use this model for years to come. Being able to clip your child’s car seat in and out without much fuss is the ultimate in comfortable use, and we love just how easy this set is to change.
Silver Cross Zest Stroller
The main reason we love this certain pushchair is thanks to just how sturdy it is. It’s suitable for toddlers up to 4 years of age, and that’s rare in the stroller and pram market. Bigger babies and rapidly growing toddlers often have to make do with walking or being carried, and that’s often rather frustrating as a parent running errands!
Not to mention just how many young children with developmental issues or learning disorders often require extra support with their motor skills. A pushchair they can still use makes it much easier to address their unique needs.
The 5 point harness of this model can be adjusted in three areas to properly hold in children of various ages. This extra level of control makes this stroller great for rough roads and hills.
When you fold the model up using the 1 button system, you’ll have an easy carry handle to use to make sure you’ve always got a spare hand available for your little one. Your baby will love being able to recline in this particular unit as well, thanks to the extra padding for comfort that comes with the design. You’ll also be able to use the extensive hood to keep them protected on overexposed days.
At a reasonable price of £164.99, this is amongst the best toddler pushchairs in the UK. It usually retails for £195, so if your budget is getting tighter as your baby grows, grab this model whilst you can.
Kinderkraft Lightweight Stroller TRIG
A great contender for the best off road pushchairs in the UK, this Kindkraft product is an award winning pushchair that ticks the boxes all round. Shock absorbers in the large back wheels make it great for both traveling purposes and day to day use alike.
It’s best used in city and suburban areas, meaning it’ll run just fine over cobbled roads, uneven pathways, and even gravel areas. The use of the 5 point harness keeps your baby tucked in safely and securely at all times, and is hard to tamper with in case they like to fidget. You’ll also be able to fit them in from any side thanks to the double detachable guard rail, which is another accessibility function we love.
The one handed folding element is great if you need to take your baby out and carry them at any point. Similarly, the low fuss folding system means you can have a compact unit in just a few seconds, which is another point for this model’s off-roading ability.
Selling for £124, the sturdiness of this pushchair makes it perfect for keeping newborns and babies up to a year safe and sound. When you’re a new parent you’re incredibly worried about taking your baby out for the first time – we feel this pushchair is a great product for eliminating that worry. As such, we believe it’s great value for money just for putting your mind at rest.
Kinderkraft Pram 3 in 1 Set MOOV
Another travel system set that’s good for all ages, it once again comes with both a 3 point and 5 point harness depending on which configuration you’ve got set up. Prams tend to be just a bit safer than pushchairs, considering they face you when in use. But having bonus straps to keep your newborn safe really helps to make this set sturdy enough for use!
If your baby is asleep, lift them in and out of the car without needing to wake them. Clip them in easily and quietly, and then benefit from the shock absorber wheels preventing a rude awakening on the terrain.
Another good compact fold model, the adjustability of the set wowed us straight off. The clips aren’t hard to use, the folding itself takes no time at all, and you get to benefit from an increased level of control over your baby’s comfort experience. You’d think the set would be heavy thanks to the three settings, but it’s still rather lightweight.
The accessories available with this set helped the pram make it onto this list. Included are a leg warmer, car seat adapter clips, storage bag, and a mosquito net – you won’t have to pay any extra for these additions. That’s always a bonus in our book.
A little more expensive than the other travel system set on this list, you can buy this pram for £229.95. Said to ‘grow with your child’, the price itself isn’t too bad once you consider just how much use you’ll get out of it. Any baby weighing up to 22kg can fit into this set making it a good toddler pram/pushchair. It’s also incredibly well made in its base design and comes with plenty of accessories. Ultimately we find the price to be very good value for money!
Graco TraveLite Pushchair
And number 10 on our list, the Graco TraveLite Pushchair is a great pushchair for babies aged 0 to 18 months, although the buggy itself allows for 15kg (or 3 years) in total. Graco itself is a well known babycare brand, so you’d expect top quality products from its line of pushchairs and prams.
We’re happy to say the TraveLite model follows suit. The safety of this particular pushchair comes with a top rating; once again fitted with a 5 point harness, you won’t have to worry about baby tipping when seated in the chair. You’ll also be able to easily adjust the length of the seat as your baby grows, thanks to the inbuilt calf support in the leg rest.
Not only that, the buggy is incredibly portable, with a good compact fold you can carry with one hand. And if you’re on the taller side, the high handles of the pushchair will keep you from needing to bend or stoop as you push your child around.
Finally, this pushchair is a good budget option, costing only £70 for parents looking for a sturdy buggy they can rely on. Plus it comes with a fun red hood, which is always a nice touch!
And they’re the top recommendations based on Amazon purchases!
Can’t wait to see your little one riding around in style!
